Flughafenbetriebskompanien
Overview:
The Flughafenbetriebskompanie´s (FBK) primary duty was repair and service for all the aircraft of a specific unit. The FBK belonged to the various Gruppen of the heavier units, incl. Kampfgeschwader, Sturzkampfgeschwader, Zerstorergeschwader, and various reconnaissance and transport units.
Normally fully motorised, consisted of 150 men, and was divided into 4 platoons (züge) - 3 Betriebszüge and 1 Werkstattzug, and would normally follow the Gruppe around to the various bases.
Initially most Gruppen had 2 FBK 's, but this was changed to one each, after Jan 1943.
1. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG100
Formed Nov 1939 in Kothen as 1.FBK-KGr.100. In Dec 1941 became 1.FBK-KG100. In Oct 1943 redesignated 1.FBK-KG4.
Reformed Oct 1943 in Lechfeld. Disbanded May 1944.
Served with KGr.100 (Nov 1939 - Dec 1941) and I./KG100 (Dec 1941 - May 1944)
2. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG100
Formed 15 Dec 1941 in Seschtschinskaja from 7.FBK-KG26. Disbanded Feb 1945.
Served with II./KG100 (Dec 1941 - Feb 1945)
3. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG100
Formed 29 Apr 1943 in Schwäbisch Hall. Disbanded Sep 1944.
Served with III./KG100 (Apr 1943 - Sep 1944)
4. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG100
Formed Nov 1941 Lüneburg. Disbanded Sep 1944.
Served with IV./KG100 (Nov 1941 - Sep 1944)
