Formed 1 Nov 1937 in Werneuchen as Jagdfliegerschule Werneuchen with 3 staffeln, and on 15 Jan 1940 became Jagdfliegerschule 1 (JFS 1).

Einsatz-Staffel/JFS1 was formed 17 Dec 1941 in Jever

On 14 Feb 1942 Einsatz-Staffel/JFS 1 became part of the adhoc formation, JGr. Losigkeit (3. staffel), and in late Mar 1942 was redesignated 10./JG1.

On 15 Dec 1942 JFS 1 was redesignated JG101 with :

Stab/JFS1 became Stab/JG101
1./JFS1 became 1./JG101
2./JFS1 became 2./JG101
3./JFS1 became 3./JG101

Used the following aircraft: Ar 68, Ar 96, Bf 108, Bf 109, Bu 131, Do 17, Fw 56, He 45, He 51, Ju 160 and Zlin 212
