On November 17, 1944 Short Snorter, piloted by Lt. Ed DeMouche, was assigned to a mission against a troop concentration at Weisweiller, Germany. One of the aircraft's engines missed while taking off, and on re-landing the nose gear on Short Snorter gave out. The Marauder ended up in an old bomb crater at the end of the runway. The crew escaped injury; the aircraft was salvaged for parts.
