151° Gruppo 53° Stormo C.T.
Fiat G.50 bis flown by Maggiore Antonio Giachino, leader of 151° Gruppo, with another aircraft of 367a Squadriglia (151° Gruppo, 53° Stormo C.T.), Turin-Caselle, March 1942. Both aircraft were finished with Light Hazelnut Brown blotches over a Dark Olive Green background and Light Blue-Grey lower surfaces. Wing national insignia on clear roundels and blue-grey spinner. This camouflage, usually called ‘green lizard’, was painted on every Fiat-built G.50 after September 1941, in compliance with a new camouflage specification requiring Light Hazelnut blotches on Dark Olive base for aircraft destined to overseas operations. Since then, that scheme was applied also to every CR.42 and the prototype G.55. On 1 January 1942, 151° Gruppo was assigned to the reformed 53° Stormo at Caselle, receiving new G.50s. After a period spent defending Turin and Milan, the group was posted to Araxos from July to October, carrying naval escort missions, and to Pantelleria until May 43, receiving Macchi C.202s.
Turin Airport, also known as Turin-Caselle Airport, is an airport located at Caselle Torinese, 8 nautical miles north-northwest of the city of Turin, in the Province of Turin, Piedmont region, northern Italy.
