Fiat G.50 bis flown by Tenente Malavasi of 394a Squadriglia, 160° Gruppo Autonomo C.T., Sorman or Surman (Arabic: صرمان‎) is a town near the Mediterranean coast, in the Zawiya District of the Tripolitania region in northwestern Libya. July 1942. Three-tone camouflage scheme of Green and Brown blotches over Sand, with Light Grey lower surfaces. Wing national insignia on clear roundels and red spinner. Note camouflage was probably a field repaint job, with large green and brown mottle, on this plane mounting a longer late-type spinner. Also worth of note is the non-standard tail cross design, having no Savoy coat of arms, confirming that some repaint occurred. This Gruppo had operated in North Africa since August 1941 in the ground attack role, equipped with bomb-rack fitted CR.42s. It was later partially re-equipped with some G.50s, anyway used in the same role. In fact, in 1942 the use of G.50 was limited to ground attack, as it was no longer able to play a significant role as an interceptor against modern enemy aircraft.
