Profile 00A: P-40F-15 41-19831 White 209 of 2Lt Lucien B Shuler, 68th FS/347th FG, Guadalcanal, April 1943. Bob Shuler flew 33 combat missions with the 68th FS between February and May 1943, when a bout of malaria forced him out of the cockpit. At the time his aircraft displayed the distinctive sharkmouth markings of the 68th FS, along with the short-lived P-40 theatre markings on the tail, which were replaced by an all-white tail in June 1943. After three weeks of treatment, Shuler joined the 44th FS/18th FG, in which he flew P-40M White 107 Georgia Peach. He began scoring almost immediately, claiming seven victories in two months, including four Zekes on 4 August 1943 over Munda. The ace was wounded on 31 December 1943 flying a P-38 and was sent home shortly afterwards.
