Flughafenbetriebskompanien

Overview:

The Flughafenbetriebskompanie´s (FBK) primary duty was repair and service for all the aircraft of a specific unit. The FBK belonged to the various Gruppen of the heavier units, incl. Kampfgeschwader, Sturzkampfgeschwader, Zerstorergeschwader, and various reconnaissance and transport units.

Normally fully motorised, consisted of 150 men, and was divided into 4 platoons (züge) - 3 Betriebszüge and 1 Werkstattzug, and would normally follow the Gruppe around to the various bases.

Initially most Gruppen had 2 FBK 's, but this was changed to one each, after Jan 1943.

Formed May 1939 in Landsberg/Lech. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 3.FBK-KG30.

Reformed 10 Jan 1943 in Rostov from 7.FBK-KG28.

Served with I./KG51 (May 1939 - May 1945)

2. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed May 1939 in Landsberg/Lech. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 3.FBK-KG51.

Reformed 10 Jan 1943 in Bagerovo from 4.FBK-KG51. On 6 Feb 1944 redesignated 3.FBK-KG3.

Reformed Feb 1944 in Lublin from 5.FBK-KG2.

Served with I./KG51 (May 1939 - Jan 1943) and II./KG51 (Jan 1943 - May 1945)

3. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed 10 Jan 1943 in Saporoshje from 2.FBK-KG51. Disbanded Jan 1944.

Served with III./KG51 (Jan 1943 - Jan 1944)

4. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed 1 Apr 1940 in München-Riem. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 2.FBK-KG51.

Reformed 10 Jan 1943 in Bobruisk from 10.FBK-KG51. Disbanded Feb 1944.

Served with II./KG51 (Apr 1940 - Jan 1943) and IV./KG51 (Jan 1943 - Feb 1944)

7. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed May 1939 in Memmingen. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 2.FBK-KG76.

Served with III./KG51 (May 1939 - Jan 1943)

8. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed May 1939 in Memmingen. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 112. Flughafenbetriebskompanie (Qu).

Served with III./KG51 (May 1939 - Jan 1943)

10. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG51

Formed Mar 1941 in Lechfeld. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 4.FBK-KG51.

Served with IV./KG51 (Mar 1941 - Jan 1943)
