PageRank - One Google measure of a website's overall value, one factor of the site's ranking within Google's search results. Named for Google co-founder Larry Page.

page view - A request to load a single web page, often used as a measure of a website's traffic

paid inclusion - Paying to be included in a search engine or directory. Paid inclusion does not maximize search engine rankings but guarantees inclusion within the engine's database.

paid search - see "pay-per-click advertising (PPC)"

pay-per-call advertising - An online advertising service through which a search engine/directory-based advertisement is displayed with a trackable telephone number. The advertiser is charged only when a searcher calls the telephone number promoted in the online ad. Pay-per-call advertising can be an effective tactic for offline-based businesses.

pay-per-click advertising (PPC) - A search engine advertising tactic through which the advertiser pays only when a searcher clicks through to its website. The price per click is typically based on a bid model - the advertiser submits the price it is willing to pay for a click resulting from a search on a specific keyphrase, and this bid influences the competitive position of the advertiser's ad.

podcast - An audio file posted to the Internet allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost

pop-up ad - An online advertisement that displays in a new browser window, either automatically or as a result of the user clicking a link

pop-under ad - An advertisement that displays in a new browser window behind the current browser window

ranking, search engine - A successful search engine optimization result, in which the marketer's site is listed within a search engine's results as a result of a keyphrase search important to the marketer's business. Top 30 rankings are most relevant, since these show in the first three pages of results for most engines and searchers rarely go beyond the third page.

reciprocal link - An outgoing link from one website to another site that is providing a link back to the original site. Reciprocal links are arranged between two marketers to help each other's search engine optimization efforts, since incoming links from high quality, relevant sites positively impacts these results.

rich media - Advanced graphical and audio technologies used for online advertising that enhance the user experience and often enable user interaction

robots.txt file - A piece of HTML code on a website used to inform search engine spiders that a specific webpage should not be indexed

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) Feed - Web content transmitted directly to a user on a regular basis, through technology enabling the user to subscribe on the provider's website

run of network - An online advertisement buying option in which ad placements may appear on any pages within a network of websites

run of site - An online advertisement buying option in which ad placements may appear on any pages of a website
